How to Choose a Spirit Nature: Attack, Speed, and Nature Changes

Choose a nature by move type and team role, then learn when to use an Imperfect Mirror or Mirror Frame.

Quick Answer

Choose a nature only after deciding what the spirit actually does and whether its main skills use physical or magical attack. Physical attackers usually want physical attack or speed while placing the penalty on unused magical attack. Magical attackers reverse that logic. Defensive and support spirits often value HP, physical defense, or magical defense more than damage.

An imperfect nature does not make a rare spirit worthless. Public guidance from the official Roco Kingdom: World account explains that the Imperfect Mirror changes the negative effect, while the Mirror Frame can change both the positive and negative effects.

Check Skills Before the Nature

Open the spirit details, identify its role, and verify the damage type of its intended moves in the Skills Library. PVE builds may prefer reliable damage or durability, while PVP builds may value speed enough to choose a different nature for the same spirit.

Example 1: Fire God

The official guide uses Fire God as an attacking example and recommends physical attack or speed. Choose physical attack when your physical build already moves early enough; choose speed when acting first decides the turn. A penalty to unused magical attack is usually easier for a physical build to accept.

Example 2: A Defensive Eel-Tail Beast

The same official guide recommends HP, physical defense, or magical defense for Eel-Tail Beast in a defensive role. The illustrated nature raises HP and lowers speed. That trade is acceptable only if the build does not need to heal, control, or support before the opponent acts.

Example 3: A Magical Attacker

For a spirit whose main moves use magical attack, compare three practical options: magical attack up and physical attack down for stable damage; speed up and physical attack down when first action matters; or magical attack up and physical defense down for more damage at a survival cost. Use Spirit Compare to inspect candidates and judge the penalty, not only the green bonus.

Imperfect Mirror vs Mirror Frame

Use an Imperfect Mirror when the positive direction is already correct but the negative effect hurts an important stat. It does not turn a speed bonus into a physical-attack bonus. Use a Mirror Frame when both sides of the nature need to change.

The official April guide showed a weekly crafting recipe for the Imperfect Mirror, but later announcements adjusted the supply of training items. Check the current crafting page, weekend Traveling Merchant, and active events instead of relying on an old fixed count. The Mirror Frame was listed in a training pack at the time; availability may also change.

A Four-Step Keep-or-Release Check

First, lock rare alternate-color, chromatic, limited, or hard-to-repeat catches. Second, define the spirit's role. Third, decide whether only the negative effect is wrong or the positive direction is wrong too. Fourth, reserve scarce adjustment and upgrade materials for long-term team members rather than temporary story spirits.

Common Questions

Are neutral natures unusable? No. They are perfectly serviceable for early progress and temporary or utility spirits.

Must every physical attacker raise physical attack? No. Speed can be more valuable when a key control or knockout must happen first.

Why did the bonus stay after using an Imperfect Mirror? Because it changes the negative effect, not the positive direction.

Should I release a rare alternate-color spirit with a poor nature? Lock it first. Its nature can be evaluated or adjusted later, while the rare appearance may be far harder to replace.
